About Bullies: Q&A

Bully Tales: Story

Sunny on the couch 10-22-03
Well, we went to Silverwood. Sunny started throwing up the day before we left. He wasn’t holding anything down. I feared he had a blockage and took him to the vet the day we were leaving. The vet said he was OK. He didn’t think he had a blockage or was sick, just had an upset tummy. He gave Sunny a tranquilizer to help him on the trip and to help ease his tummy troubles.

The drive there was an uneventful 12 hour journey. Sunny slept peacefully the whole way there and acted like a
drunken old man whenever we took a rest stop. We arrived at Silverwood on Friday around 11am. It was a mad house there. People dragging Bullies in and out of the hotel to poo on the front lawn. I found out later they were not supposed to be doing that. I was so excited when I got there to see all the Bulliess. They were in fact everywhere! Bullies of all shapes, sizes, and colors lined the halls as far as the eye could see. Sunny was not impressed by any of this. I think he was relieved when we got up to our hotel room so he could retreat back into his crate and go to sleep. At this point he was still sick and not holding much food down.

The room was incredible! It was the nicest I have ever stayed in, in all of my 24 years. The bed was indeed heavenly with all down feather bedding and pillows. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom had the most awesome showerhead in it. It was one of those dual head deals, and it gave me the most awesome shower! I loved the hotel room.

After we unpacked we headed down to the second floor where all the activities were being held. We walked around and looked at all the awesome but very pricey Bully merchandise for sale. Most of this stuff I had never seen for sale on the Internet. But, I was very disappointed that the Adorabull lady didn’t have a booth set up selling her wonderful figures. That was going to be the only thing I bought. I ended up getting a T-shirt, bandanas, and some socks. Then, we went and watched some of the Bullies in the ring. They were all beautiful, and one thing I noticed at Silverwood was how small Sunny really is. Most of these Bullies weighed around the same as Sunny, but they had these massive heads that had to weigh like 25 lbs! Sunny was still the cutest one there.

That night we hung around the hotel and watched some of the Silverwood attendees get very drunk. Some of these people were actually very embarrassing and were acting really stupid and being very loud. I guess I don’t get what is so fun about getting like that in public. Anyways, then after we ate dinner and spied a few more Bully bums we went to bed. Saturday was our only full day there. We spent all day watching the show, walking around the hotel, talking to a few people, and Sunny got a western picture made with us all dressed up like cowboys! He even got to pose for the sample shot they used to show people! That was fun and Sunny was so good as usual. That night they had the banquet and again everyone was drunk. I didn’t go to the banquet, but I am sure it was a sight to see. It had been a long day so we headed off to bed after midnight. Sunday we just got up and saw some more of the show and then headed on back to Nashvegas. We ended up driving the whole way home and got home around 1:00 am.

Sunny was a good boy the whole trip. He didn’t make a peep the whole way there or back. But, like me I don’t think he really enjoyed Silverwood very much. He just seemed sad and depressed the whole time and was always happy to get back to the room. I think he was so sad because nobody else would play with him. None of the other dog owners would let there dogs play. He was always glad to get back to the hotel room so he could hucklebutt on the nice white sheets. I think it was all a little too much for him. As for me, I didn’t enjoy it all that much either. Don’t get me wrong. I loved seeing all the other Bullies. But, from what everyone has written about Silverwood I got a totally different impression. I thought Silverwood would be a bonding experiance among all Bully owners, but I found out this was not the case. I would say I met maybe 8 friendly people at Silverwood out of 100s of Bully owners. Everyone else could care less about meeting me or my little Sunny. I thought it would be like when you go to the pet store or somewhere and you run into another Bully and you explode with excitement and talk about all things Bully. I guess Silverwood really isn’t for the pet owner, and if you aren’t into conformation then those people don’t want to even talk to you. Most of those same people didn’t want you getting anywhere near their dogs. I even had one lady scream at me for trying to pet her Bully on the elevator. I just found most of the Bull Terrier folks to be very unfriendly.

All in all I think the trip went O.K. But I wouldn’t drive 12 hours to go to another Silverwood. I loved seeing the few people I did meet and they made it all worthwhile! Thanks to those folks who actually acknowledged our presence there. It was wonderful to finally meet some of the people from the list! Sunny was so happy to finally be at home and wouldn’t leave my sight for a couple days. He has gotten over his sickness, and I am so glad he didn’t have a blockage!
