About Bullies: Q&A

Bully Tales: Story

Sunny has surprised me again this month with the adult dogman he is becoming. Gwyn can now sit in her little chair and watch her baby Einstein videos and Sunny doesn’t even attempt to disturb her. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t leave them unsupervised together, but at least when I am in the room he doesn’t bother her. It’s so cute how Sunny will look at her so intensively. It’s like she is some strange little alien or something. He will sit in front of her chair, eyes lowered, ears back and he just looks so sweet. It’s as if he really is saying, "Hi, I am your big brother Sunny, and I will never let anyone hurt you" or maybe he is just saying, "I love you, will you be my friend?" Either way it is the sweetest thing I have ever seen.

Bullies are so much like humans, and I think he will watch over her the way a real human brother would. Gwyn is now 3 months old. I can’t believe how fast this time has gone with her. I try to enjoy every little second because I know that when these moments pass that they are truly gone forever and in an instance I will be watching her walk down the isle, starting her own journey in life. Anyhow, since she is getting older her needs for toys are starting to become known. She has several plush rattles she likes to shake and when she does Sunny gets a little anxious. All plushies have always been for Sunny’s taking. I caught him today with one of her wrist rattles in his mouth. By the time I got it loose, it was one mangled, wet mushy pile of plush nothing. He knew it was wrong. He slowly put his head down and stared at me through those little bloodshot eyes. I couldn’t help but forgive him. It’s got to be hard on him to be second now.

Sunny has become totally obsessed with his tennis balls lately. I guess it’s his way of showing us his lack of attention is ok with him because he can play by himself. But this is getting ridiculous. I have heard Bullies can easily become ball obsessed, and this is very true with Sunny. He will chase his balls around for 5 hours straight if we let him. He gets one tennis ball in his mouth and then bats the other one around the room with his nose. Now sometimes he puts other things in his mouth and hits the ball. The other day I saw him with the hubby’s big shoe in his mouth and he was playing tennie soccer with it. Then, later on he had my shoe. Sometimes, it will be a different toy or maybe even a sock. I have never seen a dog play ball like that. He doesn’t want you to throw it--that totally messes up his game. He will get so exhausted and he will finally just collapse on the floor and pant like he is going to pass out. Oh, and don’t get in his way when the ball skids out of his reach. Geez, he is like a big tornado ripping across the carpet. Eventually, we have to take the balls away because he gets so tired and then he will spend the rest of the night imagining he sees them under the chair. It’s a crazy game, but he loves it.

Well, the baby is getting hungry, and I hear Sunny in there barking at his balls that escaped underneath the chair. Till next time!
